Quick cooking

I love cooking. Slow cooking, with lots of time on Sundays, and also quick cooking. Quick cooking,
this is what I usually do in the evening, when I'm stressed from work. The ideal quick cooking recipe is such that you co into the kitchen, are occupied for 5 - 30 minutes, and when you're done with cutting and putting things away, the food is ready. This works only if you are skilled with cutting and slicing vegetables - M never manages *evilgrin*

anyway, here's tonight's recipe: spinach with rice and yogurt.
Take spinach out of freezer to thaw. (Do use the chunks of leaves, not the creamy stuff)
Boil rice in microwave. The most energy saving and quickest way of doing this is to boil the water in the waterboiler first. If you want, add cloves and one onion.
Roast cumin, pine nuts and onion in a pan. If you have, also a pepper and garlic. Pepper corns would be nice as well. Add the spinach to thaw once the onion and nuts are browned.
Add the rice once it is cooked.
Wait until the spinach is thawed and add yogurt, and maybe more spices.

Done.

Notes to self (this is btw a citation of savageland's fabulous story Somewhere I Have Never Travelled. . .)

If strange things happen in matlab, i.e. a function starts to behave really erratically but in a stupid reproducible way, then it is time to check whether the problem is between user and keyboard. Never copy and paste without checking. I managed to cut some letters of a variable declaration and ended up with a variable called sum.
No surprise that the script stopped working after this.

Other than that: PhD life sucks. Quite possibly a real job would suck as well, but at least you are not allowed to work inside the company building overtime on weekends. On the other hand, if I managed to stop procrastinating, I would not need to work the weekend. Even worse, this is the first decent summer weekend and I am stuck with a really bad feeling about all the work that needs finishing and all the emails I should have written a long time ago and ...

I've finally made the big wrong step and started blogging. I'm quite sure this is a _very_ bad idea, as I am more than late in preparing a talk for a conference and have some more additional tasks to do. Ah well. We'll see how this turns out.
